El-Hassan Youth Award Programmes - Services
The services program offers the participant a wide range of activities enabling the participant to understand the importance of assisting others and in the development of the local environment. The services program follows one single method for all levels of the Award by allowing the participant to choose and master practical and social services. If these services are not mastered, the participant is provided with the theoretical and practical information necessary for performing these services. In this case, a third of the required time for the services program is allotted for the training period and two-thirds for the practical side.
At the Bronze level, the participant is expected to discuss the services program with the supervisor and visiting three social institutions in addition to writing descriptive reports on these institutions and performing this service for three months for an average duration of an hour a week. The participant may extend this period to six months if he/she wishes to do so.

At the direct Silver level, the participant is expected to discuss the services program with the supervisor and visiting three social institutions in addition to writing analytical reports on these institutions. The participant should also study a social issue and discuss it with the supervisor and write about it in the accomplishments notebook. This service is to be performed for a minimum of six months at the institution which can be extended for a period of 12 months based on the participants’ desire to do so.
At the direct Gold level, the participant is expected to discuss the services program with the supervisor and visiting three governmental social institutions in addition to writing analytical reports on these institutions. The participant should also study a social issue and discuss it with the supervisor and write about it in the accomplishments notebook. This service is to be performed for a minimum of 12 months at the institution which can be extended for a period of 18 months based on the participants’ desire to do so. Furthermore, the participant is expected to conduct a scientific study on a social issue or project, preferably related to the services the participant was involved in.
Indirect Gold participants who are Silver Award holders should conduct a general study for his communities’ social needs or a more dedicated study with regards to the practical service the participant performed and noting that down in the personal accomplishments notebook.
The Outdoor Residential Program is an additional requirement for direct and indirect Gold Award participants. It is a program designed to develop the participants abilities by allowing them to live with other participants in an environment different than what they are used to. They will be living with people from various communities and learn to work and live together for a minimum period of five days and four nights.
The Outdoor Residential Program enables the participants the opportunity to develop, mature and the ability to bear responsibility. This program can be connected to the various activities of the Award’s programs in Services, Skills, and Physical recreation, but not Adventurous Journeys.
Note: The Award Office’s approval is required prior to participating in the Outdoor Residential Program.
Types of Services

The three Awards are separate; the participant can select a different service for each level or continue with the same service for all levels. The participant should not, however, change the type of service in one specific level so as to have the necessary time of understanding the service and the institution where it is performed.

At the beginning of the program, the schools’ educational supervisor helps the participant in the Bronze level of the Award take the initiative by selecting the service. As for the Silver and Gold levels, the participant does that on his own and it is preferred that it is not done inside the school.
Throughout the duration of the service the participant has selected (three months for Bronze, six months for Silver and twelve months for Gold), the supervisor at the Award and the supervisor for the service selected sit down for three meetings with the participant to correct what needs correction and encouraging the participant. The participant should note down the schedule of visits to the institutions in his/her notebook to assist them in the final assessment.
